This listing is for a Marlin Model 1898 - National Firearms Co. Fired, as many of these guns are 70-100 years old, and system failures can and do happen. CATEGORY Shotguns; Manufacturer Marlin; Caliber 12 Gauge; Action Pump Action. I bought an old hammer pump shotgun today. It has a 32 inch bbl, and is marked on top of the barrel '.National Fire Arms Co.'. Closer to the reciever is '12 Ga' On the left side of the barrel is '.Full Choke.' The serial number is on the reciever just in front of the feeding tube, '112202'.
Greetings,
I acquired a pump shotgun in a multi-gun purchase, and would like to confirm its possible C&R status.
I have attempted searches on the the National Fire Arms Co., and have found references to the trade name productions of H&D Folsom, Marlin, etc. So, I understand that it is not necessarily an entity in and of itself, and there is limited historical content to retrieve.
Going by the features of the gun, itself, I'm hoping to determine its relative age. First, its a hammerless, which seems to be an oddity. Every reference that I can find is for an exposed hammer model. Next, it has a three digit serial number, and I can't remember the date when numbers were required to contain five digits. The only identification is on the barrel.
Now, this isn't a gun that could be trusted, as the tube/action rod guide has a broken dovetail and renders the pump as quite sloppy. But still, curiosity calls. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks. Pics in following post.
